What types of hyaluronic acid are there?

As we mentioned earlier, hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in our body. Thanks to cosmetic and aesthetic medicine treatments, we can supplement it to firm the skin and moisturize it. In aesthetic medicine, 2 main types of hyaluronic acid are used - cross-linked and non-cross-linked. How do they differ and when are they used?

Non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid

It is used to moisturize the skin. It remains in the tissue from a few days to about a month. It is administered deep into the skin using a thin and short needle, which performs point punctures after prior local anaesthesia with a special anaesthetic cream

Cross-linked hyaluronic acid

Cross-linked hyaluronic acid is a typical filler. The time it stays in the tissue depends on the degree of its cross-linking, the place of administration and the individual characteristics of the patient. The more cross-linked the hyaluronic acid is, the longer it stays in the tissue. The effects of the hyaluronic acid filling procedure last on average from 6 to about 12 months.

Hyaluronic acid treatments –

In our Clinic we work with gel preparations derived from hyaluronic acid, such as the following brand products

Galderma Restylane

These are sterile, stabilized hyaluronic acids of non-animal origin

Teoxane Teosyal

These are viscoelastic gels containing cross-linked and unmodified hyaluronic acid of non-animal origin

The appropriate preparation to be used during the procedure is selected individually for each patient, during a medical interview conducted at the very beginning and an assessment of the area where hyaluronic acid is to be administered.

Where is hyaluronic acid used?

Hyaluronic acid can be administered to virtually any area of the body, but treatments most often concern the face, especially the cheekbones, red lips and marionette lines

Indications

*restoring skin elasticity and firmness

*supplementing the deficiency of hyaluronic acid in the body

What does the procedure look like?

Before the procedure, the area to be treated is covered with a special anesthetic cream, such as Emla. Then, after thoroughly disinfecting the area, the preparation is applied with a very thin needle or cannula, which significantly reduces pain and allows you to avoid marks at the injection site. The procedure takes about 20-30 minutes

After the procedure

After the procedure, some side effects may appear, such as redness, swelling, and slight pain at the injection site, which disappear spontaneously within 2-3 days.

Durability of effects

The durability of the effects of hyaluronic acid modeling depends on several factors. Hyaluronic acid, as a natural substance, is spontaneously removed by the body. Due to this, the obtained results usually last from 6 to 12 months. The duration of the effects of hyaluronic acid treatment depends on many factors, including genetic conditions, lifestyle, diet or the place on the body where the deficiencies were filled.
